Bookish TV: the new shows coming this fall

Here’s a look ahead at the book-based TV shows coming your way this fall (and I threw in a few more shows I think look interesting at the end of this post, just for fun.)

Once Upon A Time

It looks like the drama version of Enchanted, doesn’t it? I’m hoping it’s fun, but I suspect it might get tired after a while…

Revenge

Count of Monte Cristo retelling, with a very solid leading lady in Emily Vancamp – definitely worth a look.

Good Christian Belles (formerly known as Good Christian Bitches)

Oh, Kristen Chenoweth, how I miss the Pushing Daisies days…

Secret Circle

Another one for the L.J. Smith fans, firmly in The Vampire Diaries mold (it even has Kevin Williams exec producing).

Grimm

Seems like just another cop show hiding behind a genre patina. I’m not particularly convinced…

Are you there Vodka? It’s me, Chelsea

This show also got picked up, but I just can’t bring myself to post the trailer – it’s terrible. But if you’re so inclined, you can check it out here.

The Finder

The Bones spin-off – based on The Locator series by Richard Greene. I think it’ll be adequate, but nothing special – I suspect more than anything this show will make us all appreciate just how good David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel really are.

And a few more interesting TV shows coming this fall:

Smash (NBC)

This show feels like it could be a real break-out hit, especially if the Glee fans show up. Killer cast, and plenty of juicy backstage drama to tap – if they do it right, this could be really fun.

Alcatraz (FOX)

Because Sam O’Neil being mysterious is always fun, I’ll tune in – but I’m also a little leery, in that I think this show could frustrate the pants off of me. I suspect this one might go the way of Fringe – alluring, but never quite delivering fully on its promise.

Awake (NBC)

Jason Isaacs can really freaking act – he’s just mesmerizing – so I’m willing to give this show a try, but I’m not sure there’s enough to the concept. Heart rending therapy sessions might get a little repetitive after a while – but hey, the tear jerking certainly didn’t hurt The Ghost Whisperer, so who knows…

And there you have it – the bumper crop of what’s coming this fall. What will you watch?
