From Screen Daily – Ben Hibon, the man behind the fantastic animated sequence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part one, has been attached to a dark re-imagining of Peter Pan (in which Peter is most definitely not the hero of the story) since last fall, but now with a script from Benjamin Magid, and a tentative start date in October, the project is starting to shape up nicely: Aaron Eckhart is attached to play Hook, in this version a tormented former detective on the trail of a childlike kidnapper; Sean Bean is set to play Smee, the chief detective and Hook’s only ally on the force, and AnnaSophia Robb will play Wendy, the lone survivor who leaves an asylum to help in the hunt.
Essential Entertainment expects to kick off pre-sales in Cannes this week, and the project will shoot in Eastern Europe.
Dark re-imaginings of classic tales are a dime a dozen these days – and there are more than a few Peter Pan projects currently in the Hollywood pipeline – but I have to say I am liking the look of this one…
