This is the wild true story of Canadian mystery writer Howard Engel – he literally woke up one morning and couldn’t read his morning paper. NPR created a video to illustrate what went wrong with Howard’s brain, the result of a small stroke he’d suffered overnight. And amazingly enough, he is slowly beginning to read again, with the help of neuroscientist Oliver Sacks. Unbelievable.
The NPR video should show up below, but the embed is being a little funky, so if the player doesn’t come up, head on over to NRP and take a look:

You’ll never take reading for granted again!
I am a fifteen year old boy who has lost the ability to read although i recognise letters and can write anything. Its hard to make anyone believe this has happened including doctors. But after three months i am awaiting the results of an MRI scan of my head. Its good to hear i am not alone.
