DHD reports Daniel Silva has left his long-time agents at ICM and signed with hotshot D.C. attorney Robert Barnett, at Williams & Connolly.
Speculation is rife that this could be Silva’s first step in an Evanovich-like move to shop for a new publishing deal…
Barnett, whose clients range from President Barack Obama to Sarah Palin to Bob Woodward, does not primarily focus on the realm of Fiction, but with his clout, he does just fine – Barnett negotiated a 17-book deal with Hachette Book Group for client James Patterson that covers the prolific author through 2012, with six books per year. (The standard agency commission on such a deal – 15% – would have been enormous, which is likely why Patterson left WME for Barnett, whose steep hourly charges still saved Patterson a pile of money.)
Silva is best known for his art restorer/Israeli secret agent character Gabriel Allon, who routinely lands on the bestseller lists. Putnam publishes the series – and they’re probably starting to get a bit nervous right about now…
