Smee is back! Bob Hoskins, the very same Oscar nominated actor who played Smee in Steven Spielberg’s Hook, is reprising the role and returning to Neverland – this time in an original prequel miniseries from Nick Willing (Alice, Tin Man) that will air on Syfy later this year.
And Hoskins is not alone – also starring are Rhys Ifans (Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows) as James Hook, Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies) as Captain Elizabeth Bonny, and Charlie Rowe (The Golden Compass) as Peter Pan. Now that’s what I call a cast!
I admit I find all of these Nick Willing miniseries hypnotically fascinating – it’s not that they’re good, because, well, they’re usually not, but they’re bad in a good, enjoyable kind of way; they always have a killer cast and a cool concept, and somehow they always keep me watching until the end. So definitely keep an eye out for this one – it may not be good, but it sure looks like fun.
Series Description:
Raised on the streets of turn-of-the-century London, orphaned Peter and his pals survive by their fearless wits as cunning young pickpockets.
Now, they’ve been rounded up by their mentor Jimmy Hook to snatch a priceless treasure whose magical powers transports them to another world.
It’s here that the boys find themselves confronted by a band of 18th century pirates led by the power-mad Elizabeth Bonny, and the Native American Kaw tribe, which has protected the secret of the tree spirits from Bonny and her gang for ages.
As the fight to save this strange and beautiful world becomes vital, Hook, Peter, and the ragamuffin lost boys consider that growing old somewhere in time could be less important than growing up.
