The CW has filled out the love triangle of The Selection, the pilot based on the forthcoming novel by Kiera Cass. The dystopian tale revolves around America, a low caste woman who by chance is chosen to participate in a cut-throat competition for Prince Maxon’s heart – and of course, whoever wins the Prince also becomes the next Queen (think The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games). To complicate matters further, being chosen forces America to leave behind Aspen, the lower caste man she loves, even though their relationship is forbidden. Aspen, who knows The Selection will give America the chance to financially help her family, then enlists in the Royal Army to clear her way. And I think it’s safe to say, much angst ensues from there.
So as you’d expect, the CW has tapped three ridiculously photogenic young actors for these plum parts – Friday Night Lights‘ Aimee Teegarden has landed the role of America, and she certainly has a bevy of handsome young men to choose from: The Vampire Diaries‘ Ethan Peck is set to play Prince Maxom, and The Chronicles of Narnia‘s William Moseley is set to play Aspen.
As for who America will chose in the end – I guess we’ll find out when the book arrives April 24.
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself- and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
