I’ll admit, I’m massively predisposed to like any movie directed by Zhang Yimou (Raise the Red Lantern, Hero), but his latest effort, Under the Hawthorne Tree, looks hauntingly lovely. Adapted from the novel by Ai Mi (Hawthorn Tree Forever), Under The Hawthorne Tree is a quiet love story set against the backdrop of China’s Cultural Revolution – and I think Zhang’s lyrical style of directing will make this movie something special. Watch out, Nicholas Sparks…
No word yet on a U.S. release date, but definitely keep an eye out for this one.
