One way or another, Sleepy Hollow is coming to TV

Last year it was Beauty & the Beast, this year it’s Sleepy Hollow – one title, two projects, two networks, and may the best show win!

So in one corner we have… Sleepy Hollow!

Fox has given a put-pilot commitment to a modern-day adaptation of Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow – Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci (Hawaii 5-0, Transformers) will write and produce the pilot, and Len Wisemen (Underworld, Total Recall) is attched to direct. The show is being described as a supernatural thriller that follows Ichabod Crane as he partners with Sleepy Hollow’s local female sheriff to solve the mysteries of a town ravaged by the battle between good and evil.

And facing down this legendary tale, in the opposing corner, we have…Sleepy Hollow!

As it turns out, the CW has also picked up a pilot which just so happens to be a contemporary take on the classic Irving tale, this one a pitch hailing from Patrick Macmanus and Grant Scharbo (MissingThe Gates). In this show, Ichabod Crane is an FBI agent who arrives in Sleepy Hollow to investigate a mysterious beheading.

So…kind of hard to tell them apart, isn’t it? And I’m sure both will try very hard to be frightfully scary, and I’d lay pretty good odds on both trying to bring some kind of procedural element into the mix.

So which Headless Horseman will ride onto our small screens next fall? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…
