Premiering this Sunday on HBO, Mildred Pierce is not what I’d call a happy feel good kind of miniseries, but word on the street is Kate Winslet and Evan Rachel Wood are amazing. If you’re a fan of the classic 1945 movie, don’t think you’ve seen it all – this miniseries is much more faithful to the book (i.e. no murder tacked on), and it just oozes twisted mother-daughter drama. Critics say it’s a slow burn, but well worth the effort.
The last time James M. Cain’s novel was adapted for the screen, it landed Joan Crawford an Oscar. I think it’s safe to say there are more Emmys headed HBO’s way…
