The Giver is back in play

From Slash Film – Jeff Bridges has reacquired the rights to Lois Lowry’s classic dystopian novel, The Giver, and with producing partner Nikki Silver is once again attempting to turn it into a film.  Bridges was close to succeeding back in 2006, but the project fell apart and the rights have only recently become available again. Bridges and Silver have set Vadim Perelman (The House of Sand and Fog) to pen the adaptation, and Bridges himself is eyeing the role of The Giver.

Book Jacket:

Jonas’s world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the Community. When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.
